Years and years ago when I was planning and scheduling microfilming
jobs, I learned that 1 linear ft of files = roughly 2,500 pages of
records.  Measuring reams of paper doesn't work - you'd be surprised how
much thicker a sheet becomes once it is printed.  A standard letter size
file cabinet drawer is about 18 inches deep, so in theory, a drawer
should hold about 3,750 pages.

however......  (caveat time)

these estimates are VERY rough and can vary widely depending on
everything from paper thickness, number of folders (and their
thickness), what percentage of the documents are duplexed, how full (or
not full or jammed full) each drawer is, etc. etc. etc. - so this is a
classic case of "your mileage may vary".
