While I think it is fair to say that more education wouldn't hurt, very
few records managers/directors in law firms, including the biggest in
New York City, have a J.D.,  and I'll go further and say it's not
needed. What every law firm is looking for today are people with records
experience AND a technical background. If I were entering the field
today, in addition to my records studies and field experience sufficient
to qualify to test for the CRM, I'd get experience and a technical
degree covering project management, systems analysis, database
management, search techniques, and reports design.
