I'm with you on that Christian.

Not so much iTunes (which is fine and I use occasionally) but I have
been using other mp3 cataloging software for many years.

When I first started ripping my 1200+ CD's many years ago I was pretty
anal about setting up a folder hierarchy and keeping things manually
organized. However, once the CDDB became more useful and all the
metadata was automagically populated it wasn't long before I found that
using the mp3 app database to find stuff by artist, genre, title,
whatever was so much easier.

I think once more people get used to dealing with electronic content
management they will come around to the idea of letting tags and
metadata do their thing and not be so hung up on folder structures,
placement, etc.

Given the amount of crap I acumulate on my own pc's/Macs if it weren't
for google desktop on my pc's or spotlight on my Macs I would never be
able to find stuff. I just don't have time to put things in folders,
subfolders, subfolders of subfolders, etc.

For digital content tags/metadata and big buckets rule.

Gerry

Subject: Big Buckets, iTunes and a different kind of records management

I'm sold on Big Buckets, and iTunes is what sold me on them. I have a
huge music collection and there isn't an iPod on the market yet that can
handle it, which means I'm always tinkering around trying to figure out
what music I will take along and what I will leave behind. I also have
rather eclectic tastes in music.
