A fire broke out in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building at The White
House complex within the past hour. Appears to be on the second or third
floor (electrical/phone room) near the VP's ceremonial office, close to
working offices of his staff and the NSC. Main fire was knocked down by DC
Fire & EMS - now checking for any possible extension.
Coverage on MSNBC.com, CNN.com, washingtonpost.com, and other major outlets.
MSNBC commentators have been pondering records issues and citing the PRA and
other regulations...Speaking of need to secure secret/sensitive
information/lock things up, and now talking about electronic data...
On a historic preservation note, I toured the building after the major
renovations completed in the 1980's and it is a marvilous piece of
architecture.
