Re: Jim's question. Schedule organization based on disposition is not
NARA friendly. NARA's mission is to aid history so a schedule
organization based on disposition would not be NARA friendly.
It might be useful for a firm that intended to dispose of everything,
didn't particularly worry about the content of their records, or whether
they could find them or not (so why are they bothering?)
Big buckets are useful for things like email, but not for disposition
schedules. You can use a few buckets to initially organize what you
have, say one for record material, one for possible record material and
one for personal messages, and that sort of thing. Over time you file
the record messages in an ERMS, cull through the second bucket and file
what turns out to be a record, and trash the contents of the 3rd bucket.
This idea isn't mine, I heard it at the ARMA Convention. Does anyone
remember the speaker?
