I'm thrilled to live where such outrageous comments as comparing any US Administration to Eastern Bloc nations can be made. I too trust that Gerry will survive the weekend, avoiding a quick trip to the gulag, and will be back with us next week.  Perhaps if he survives the weekend, he will have an opportunity to contemplate an appropriate destination to which he might flee to recover his lost freedom.  
 
While I suspect that almost all of us would prefer to live in an environment that did not require surveillance of any kind..... well, we don't appear to live in such an environment today.  I for one, am thankful to see that our friends in Britain were able to use surveillance to determine who some of the "bad actors" were in the London subway bombings.  While I'm not thrilled with increased security at our airports, well... I do prefer some sense of safety in flight.  
 
My overriding hope is that those who decry the "surveillance society" will become as active in denouncing those who jeapordize the safety of all as they are in bemoaning the oppression that they "see" all around them.  Either that, or seek some of the professional help that will allow them to recover from an overabundance of paranoia.
