Trish....I really like your definition.  We have described KM in the past 
as:

?       Concerned with critical thinking, innovation, relationships and 
exposure to ideas, patterns, competencies and collaboration
?       Goal is to collect and provide information for current and future 
staff use and to provide a base of knowledge that could not be achieved if 
working alone 
?       KM is a repository designed to facilitate the sharing and re-use 
of knowledge basis and knowledge based systems

I recently saw knowledge management described as consisting of "a range
of practices used by organizations to identify, create, represent, and
distribute knowledge for reuse, awareness and learning."  Has any
listserve members seen this definition?
