Now I'll go in the opposite direction to what John said and encourage RM internship experience in the specific culture/industry the student is considering working in after grad school. Being able to throw around the name of the big corporate law firm where you interned translates not only to  HR people who have no grasp of what records management is, but also to mid-level managers in other countries, even.
