Earl asked : One of our departments has built a pretty kewl MS Access
2007 database and needs to print file folder labels directly from it.
The labels will contain a number of pieces of information from the
database, including a bar code (Code 39). I've looked at a couple of
commercial products but so far, all I've seen requires you to either
re-enter or import the MS Access data into their software for printing,
and we're trying to avoid any extra steps. Does anyone know of any
labeling software that works directly with MS Access 2007, and also
provides color coding? We'd like to be able to use the strip label
format for the folders, and we'll also need to find a source for label
stock.

Earl, you shouldn't have to export anything from MS Access: you can use
the Access report writer, with inexpensive bar code add-on software (the
NYC Municipal Archives microfilm lab uses BarCodeWiz--$139--to bar code
bibliographic information on its targets). The software offers a choice
of bar code symbologies, or (for less money) you can buy the "dedicated"
software.

You only need a special printer if you want some of the special label
materials (e.g., plastic).

Best regards.

Fred
