Syracuse University announces an opening for the position of Records
Manager to oversee the University records management program including
the University Records Center and the records coordinator program.  The
Records Manager position will report to the Director of Archives and
Records Management, a department within the Division of Human Services
and Government Relations.

Responsibilities

 

The position of Records Manager will:

 

Oversee the University records management program: conduct research into
business, legal and regulatory requirements to ensure paper and
electronic records creation, maintenance, use, and disposition are in
accordance with state and federal guidelines; provide advisory services
to campus departments regarding records and information management
policies, standards and procedures; respond to requests for information
from University staff regarding retention periods for records and manage
the deposit/retrieval of records and files; prepare records management
information for reports, the web site and department publications; and
supervise the Records Clerk.

 

Oversee the University Records Center: including the storage, retrieval
and destruction of more than 6,000 boxes of records.

 

Coordinate the Records Coordinator program: consisting of
representatives from over 240 departments, schools, and colleges across
campus to include: training coordinators on proper handling of
University records in all formats, including electronic; conducting
records inventories; categorizing records to prepare records retention
schedules; analyzing existing record-keeping systems; and making
recommendations for efficient changes/alternative storage methods for
records including microfilm and digitization.

 

Qualifications:

 

Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years experience in records management,
preferably in a college/university setting. 

Demonstrated knowledge of basic records management theories and
principles including electronic records. 

Knowledge of legal and fiscal issues governing university records. 

Experience with electronic records management and digital preservation
issues.

Strong oral and written communication skills and service orientation. 

Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 35 pounds. 

Certification in Records Management (CRM) preferred.
