Ken will exercise and expand our Records Management perspectives by arguing that most organizations should not have a records manager on their staff. Records managers should be something like outside legal counsel to organizations and provide records management consultation and services. Ken has put these principles to practice in a 5 year contract with the National Mediation Board to provide the full range of records management services (hosting all records electronically, providing all records management software, developing/implementing records schedules, and making sure the agency has the best possible records management practices, etc). Based on his decades of Lessons of Experience, Ken will engage us in a thought provoking and edifying discussion on the role of Records Managers. Be prepared to defend, if you wish, Records Managers...or join him in envisioning how the knowledge of our "profession" can best be delivered.

Ken Megill is a Certified Records Manager, a Certified Archivist and holds an MLS degree in Library Science. He is the author of several books published by K.G. Saur, Munich . A second edition of his book Corporate Memory: Records and Information Management in the Knowledge Age was published in 2005 and translated into Serbian and published by the National Library of Serbia in 2007. His other recent book is Thinking for a Living: The Coming Age of Knowledge Work published in 2004. He has authored other books on Document Management as well as book called Making the Information Revolution an IRM handbook published by AIIM and a book on Democratic Political Theory published in 1970.

Directions: Take Rockville Pike ( Wisconsin Avenue extension from DC) to Nicholson Lane just above the White Flint Mall. Turn East onto Nicholson Lane and go down the hill and then up the hill about a third of a mile. The Far East is just past Nebel Street on the left at the top of the hill.
Metro Directions: The Far East is about a third of a mile southeast from the White Flint Metro stop. Walk east on Marinelli Road , then right onto Nebel Street , and then left onto Nicholson Lane and go to the top of the hill. The restaurant will be on the left.
