I've used a hand held wireless bar code scanner on a project a few years
ago. Mind you, like all technologies, a few years means a lot! I remember
the process involving cradling the device to a PC and having an interface
offload the data into the inventory management software. You could probably
get something like this:

...if you really want to be wireless. If what you need is simple input,
then this might get it done for you. If you need software to facilitate the
data as it is scanned, that would naturally cost more - perhaps
significantly more than your hardware.

Good luck with your project!

Regards,

Barrett Walker

barcode data for boxes we're sending to offsite storage, and I'm curious as
to what models and manufacturers anyone in ListServ land is using? In doing
an Internet search, there are thousands of options with a myriad of
features, but we'd like to keep it simple right now. We want to capture
barcode numbers from stacks of boxes and move them into an Excel spreadsheet
or Access database, and I only have a few hundred dollars to spend.

you using a proprietary software to capture the data? Anything you'd do
