Well, if you still need something for valid business reasons, does that not
mean it's still a record and shouldn't be destroyed? Even if it's not
technically a record, if you need it you need it.

Having established that, whether you copy or not is constrained by budget,
and by commercial and copyright law (see Peter's question). If you remove
something, or rather, move it from somewhere in your system to somewhere
else in your system, as long as that's clearly tracked, then you should be
ok.

Just my quick thoughts between (endless) meetings.
