I found the last paragraph of the article very interesting.  They are piecing documents back together "using software that was developed to restore shredded documents from the East German secret police, the Stasi."

I guess I didn't realize that type of software existed.  It is probably most effective with strip shredders, but I can imagine it being sophisticated enough to piece together more secure shredding methodologies (diamond cut, etc.).  

It makes me wonder if shredding is enough.  For most documents, I'm sure the answer is yes.  However, it may be something to consider when choosing a disposal methodology.
