Backup is nice, but not sufficient. Maybe you know the following?

(1) The backup is going to grow without limit. This could get pricey.
(2) Make sure that there is security on the backup, so no one can delete or
modify.
(3) None of this will address the need to deal with format conversions or
ensure that the tools will be available to read the files.
(4) Test the backup regularly. Generate a list of files and checksums to
make sure that everything is there and unchanged.

Subject: how to keep digital records permanently

Hello everyone,

I am at the point where I am getting a lot of records transferred to the
archives digitally. I need to know the best way to keep them
permanently.

I have text, photographic and audiofiles. I was thinking of buying a
storage space on an institutional computer system which would provide
backup.

Can anyone tell me what your archives/records centre has done?

Thanks very much,

Anne McKeage
