Dwight, one of the issues we have run across in microfilm conversion
projects is matching the index to the images.

This is particularly an issue with roll film, where you have a
succession of discrete documents and no clear way to distinguish them
automatically (I'm assuming you did not mark the film with multi-level
blips).

You risk "losing" documents, which will have been scanned but not
correctly identified and indexed.

If using the first-generation silver-gelatin film, you want to make sure
the persons actually handling the film are REALLY CAREFUL, because, (a)
if they damage that film, there's no going back, and (b) if these are
long-term records, discarding the film shouldn't even be a
consideration. I'd be especially concerned about (and watch over) the
pre-scan cleaning of the film and repair of splices.
