It works for me. I am currently doing a bunch of Internet/Google research on
something I am writing about and downloading lots of white papers. They are
of some value, but open you to email abuse from Website owners. I have used
an email address of [log in to unmask] and it worked fine with
some name/phone number info "similar" to mine. I can identify myself to them
reasonably well if I need to actually phone them.

The email autoreply robots do not care what you put in Web site forms for an
email contact address as long as they can use the email address to reach
you. And they can reach me by email, so they seem happy. However, if they
become abusive by sending repeated emails despite attempts to unsubscribe,
or I suddenly get lots of weird spam, I can always re-contact the vendors I
need to work with and just delete the Gmail account. You must protect your
primary business and personal email accounts or find it increasingly
difficult to manage communications and therefore time ($$$).

It is a sad thing that there is always someone trying to mis-use anything
they can to market products and services, but identity protection is now a
major issue in a technology driven business environment. In addition to the
recent links leading us to research about "Email making us stupid" there is
a growing business in organizational/professional consulting that is saying
we need to get off the out of control "communications technology train" and
learn to concentrate again on self management and task focus to be
productive. See http://bigthink.com/ideas/16660
