Agreeing with Larry, John, and Bill to date on the subject topic, there is one other scenario I can think of which may require selection of a DoD certified RMA.

In short, if your customer is acting as an agent of the US government and you are required to store data related to that product, you may be required to use a DoD certified product. All other things being equal, DoD and MoReq assist in separating the wheat from the chaff, as it were. They are the only functional guidelines for RMA selection out there today in addition to YOUR own requirements.

Subject: Re: What a "STANDARD" is and is not

I agree with both Larry and John, with one minor exception. In the case of DoD 5015.02, the word standard was used to indicate a "standardized" list of minimum functional features required by DoD and that must be present in the vendor's offering and the function must also pass certification testing. The document is often referred to by a shorter version of the long name of the title. The document is a standard list of requirements for DoD agencies, it is a guideline for everyone else.
