Freezing success for Johnson County records, CRC owner praises county
staff's quick work to save history docs.

Steve Richards, who co-owns Richards and Richards with his nephew, it was
Washington County Circuit Court Clerk Karen Guinn and her staff’s quick work
that will likely save the historical documents.

For now, the documents and 50 docket and ledger books are inside a
commercial cold storage facility in Nashville. And when Richards says “cold
storage,” that’s exactly what he means.

“Once a document is wet you only have hours — less than 100 — to stabilize
it. The only way to stabilize it is to blast freeze it. ... That’s taking it
to minus-20 degrees,” Richards said.
