"If so I think that they have a limited understanding of software - it's like expecting MS Office to come packaged with a physical office setup or Adobe Acrobat to come with a circus performer. Tons of software applications have metaphorical names to highlight some aspect of the software, and in this case, Symantec is highlighting how the product stores and protects electronic data."
Wayne:
You made me laugh out loud with what you said above. My organization evaluated a few archiving products 3 years ago and EV was one of them. A name is just a name and in no way did I confuse EV with a physical vault. I am sure most companies, like mine, have a well-defined software procurement process including building a business case, developing a requirements document, issuing RFI/Q/Ps, evaluating the product in your own computing environment through a POC, and so on. All throughout this process we came to understand what EV was, what it could do, and what it couldn't. I don't care what a software vendor calls its product, as long as it does what we need it to.
Thanks, Steve
