There is an ocean of commercial software that can assist in the management
of records. Their cost varies from virtually nothing to thousands of
dollars.  One dreams that the installed software will automatically organize
and analyze everything in the collection and spit out retention dates for
every entry.  This is fantasy.  They are all worthless without some
preliminary planning and organization.  Implementation of records management
software without adequate preparation will result in failure.

 My presentation will review the organizational steps one must take before
investigating software solutions.  This includes policies, procedures, and
establishment of a records management plan.  Next user requirements must be
defined and considered.  Who will be using the software and what is the
minimum functionality that is needed?

 The final step is to survey software solutions.  If done without bias,
software can be selected and implemented for a very reasonable investment
with efficiency benefits that will be reaped immediately.  Some examples of
popular software solutions will be discussed.

 Non-members are also invited.  The cost of dinner and the program is $30.
