Some stuff that we do are:
-return any keys they have
-if they have files out, they are returned or notification is given as to who now has the files (this is a big one)
-id card is turned in before they leave

Subject: When Employee's Leave.....

Hi All,

Does anybody have policies, checklists, suggestions, 'best practices,' etc
on what to do when a longtime employee announces their intention to
separate? Sadly, we usually only get the two-weeks, so anything that keeps
this fact in mind would be most welcome.

I'm also taking on the Knowledge Management side of things, so anybody who
works with technical people--engineers, scientists, etc--I'd be most
interested in hearing how you handle pending retirements. Policies,
checklists, suggestions, 'best practices,' etc would be most welcome.

Thanks, All!
