Dear Colleagues,

I have been a lurker for a while and it is time to introduce myself. I
am the records manager for The Episcopal Church from within The Archives
of the Episcopal Church. I want to thank all of you for the breadth and
depth of the conversation on this list serve and the generosity of so
many members who share their knowledge with us newcomers. My background
is in archival research and rights clearance for many media projects
(films, museums, and websites). A few years ago I returned to grad
school for an MLIS with the goal of becoming an archivist. I landed on
records management side of the information continuum, and have been very
happy here. Now to my question:

Our IT department purchased SharePoint 2010 for lightweight
collaboration spaces and document sharing. Once purchased, the archives
asked to be involved, not only to ensure that the deployments initiated
by IT applied good content governance practices, but also to explore
whether the document and records management capabilities of SP2010 will
work for our unstructured corporate records. At this time we have no
document or records management system for electronic records and a very
limited budget. I have been following the SharePoint deployment postings
with great interest.

Some of the archives staff signed up for the AIIM SharePoint training
course, but the live session we selected was cancelled and we are having
difficulty matching our schedule to AIIM's. We are reluctant to go the
on-line route. I've searched around looking for other training courses
focused on what a records manager would need, but nothing quite matches
the AIIM curriculum. Other courses are too heavily weighted on the IT
side and the bios of the trainers generally do not include records
management consulting, or the courses are focused on the end user.

Can anyone recommend alternative sources of training? Has anyone used
Critical Path?

Many thanks in advance,
Corrinne Collett
