Deanna

I am on the banks of the Trinity River (on a bluff) and in 2000 my VERY
glass building took a direct hit from a tornado in March 2000 just a few
years after being hit by a hail storm that produced stones the size of
grapefruits. We scurried through subway tunnels to get in and out of
our building from remote parking lots.

My recommendation is to measure your risks. To do that, you have to ask
yourself what is likely to happen? How recently has it happened?

OK is not remembered for earthquakes (not that they couldn't happen
because they have happened in Alpine, TX in the mountains), but
tornados, hailstorms, and flashflooding are a definite reality.

Are you near a river? Are your roads routinely repaired including curb
and gutter? Have you visited your city transportation and public works
department to see what roads in your area are under repair or
construction? Are you located on or near a flood plain? How much
development is "upstream" from the flow of water through your area?

I happen to be well protected from the Trinity River and am surrounded
by an excellent network of flood control measures, but I can't do a
thing about the fact that Fort Worth is in tornado alley and is also the
"hail storm" capital of the state. My Records Center is not located in
the high rise where my corporate officers sit, but rather in a
well-sheltered concrete building with no windows and on the ground
floor.

I'm feeling pretty good about that!
