In a due diligence visit to a shred facility, I noted that everyone was
masked with respirators because the air was thick with paper dust. The
staff had been thoroughly trained on what to do in case of a "flash
fire" caused by the ignition of the paper dust due to some foreign
object that wasn't caught in the initial separation. Literally, the air
is on fire and it can burn quickly...jumping around the room...and
injure several people. A worker described it as looking like a shed
full of firecrackers going off one after another.

On this note- Remember that mixing metal with paper shredding can create
a very dangerous/explosive situation- sparks and paper dust don't get
along very well together-
