I agree that these are not "corporate" records but are "client  records".  
It seems to me that the client should be made aware of this  change over, if 
not already, and approved of it before hand. And also that some  very clear 
process policies and controls, etc need to be formulated and put in  place. 
 Electronic records can be hacked so that is a security issue to be  
addressed. 
 
I think that as records manager, you can bring this to others attention,  
especially Risk Management and General Counsel for your corporation.
 
I am sure others here have more to add.
