Boy, do I agree! I've been deeply concerned for many years that no technology advocate has picked up the torch of content management. Some RIM practitioners are working in this area, as are librarians. But the ones with the broad educational infrastructure, the budgets, and the ear of executive management are the IT practitioners.

I've been fascinated to see that the costs/issues around e-Discovery are driving some of the most useful discussions and networking in this area. For example, check out the Compliance, Governance, & Oversight Council website (CGOC) at:

http://www.cgoc.com/

If I ruled the world, the major universities with IT programs would offer a track in Content Management/Information Governance, and even those pursuing degrees in the technical side of things would have to take a mandatory course that introduced them to the issues and concepts of information governance.

Ahh, it's nice to dream!
