Texas historical court documents in peril, panel says

Private fundraising has been robust in Harris County, which has one of the
state's strongest preservation operations, said Travis County District Clerk
Amalia Rodriguez-Mendoza, who was on the task force.

Rodriguez-Mendoza said her office spends about $80,000 a year on historic
preservation, much of it to pay a full-time archivist. Recently, she said,
the county preserved the documents related to Sweatt v. Painter, the
landmark case in which Heman Marian Sweatt, a black man, successfully sued
to gain entrance into the then all-white University of Texas law school.
