TOPIC: Project Management



SUMMARY: Everything is a project and project management skills are a big asset for the Records Professional. In this session, Mark will discuss the tools and techniques that even the non‐PMP can utilize. The attendee will understand work plans, task lists, time lines, budgeting and allocating resources and the issues and risks surrounding projects. There will also be an ERM case study and discussion of project management skills in the information world.

SPEAKERS: Mark Barbee & Maura Whelan

Mark Barbee has spent almost his entire career planning and managing the successful execution of projects and multiple project programs for both internal corporate customers and external clients, including: AT&T, the Federal Government, Spherion, Boars Head, and United Health Group. He has worked for several of the largest global management consulting firms as well as starting and managing his own consulting firm. His experiences also include designing and successfully implementing several Project or Program Management Offices (PMO) for a number of $1B+ businesses. He has worked in a variety of industries (including legal services) and across the four major end-to-end process areas, i.e., Procure-to-Pay (P2P), Recruit-to-Retire (R2R), Order-to-Cash (O2C), and Record-to-Report (R2R). His current mandate is to create a full functioning PMO, with project portfolio management and resource allocation management and reporting, while introducing and imbedding structured project management tools and techniques into the project management process.



Maura Whelan is a Project Manager in the PMO at Greenberg Traurig. Maura is a certified Project Management Professional with over 7 years experience as an IT Project Manager in both the consulting and legal fields. She has real world experience in Document Management, Email Management and Records Management implementations focusing not only on the technology but the process and policies needed for successful information management.
