I'd beware of even summary invoices. The devil is often in the details. I've
saved the county a lot of money simply by reviewing the details on billings
for things like image conversion, recycling, records storage, copy machines,
mailings, etc.... Its in the details that you may discover that your vendor
thinks your 1.2 c.f. boxes weigh 350 lbs each, or that that little
copier/fax in the corner can generate 10K copies per day, or that the pickup
and delivery truck meandered over 200 miles to go to the site 10 miles
away.

The problem with a lot of this back office unit pricing type stuff is that a
lot of vendors assume no one is paying attention. Unfortunately, more often
than not, they would be right. There's great hero potential here, by the
way. I caught over $500K in overcharges just in the first year alone.
