The University of Illinois seeks candidates for several Assistant Director
of University Records and Information Management Services (RIMS)
positions, located on the Urbana, Chicago, and Springfield campuses. The
RIMS Assistant Director oversees and coordinates the management of
University records and supporting information resources.  The RIMS
Assistant Director plays a key role in planning, establishing and
implementing an effective University records and information management
program in a team environment. Additional responsibilities include:


Duties:

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Provide leadership and expertise in establishing and implementing an
innovative and effective University records and information management
program.



2. Assure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, the
University’s General Rules, and all approved University policies related
to records and information management.



3. Research, develop, and communicate best-practice management and
preservation strategies for physical, digitized, and born-digital records
maintained in distributed and diverse environments across the University.



4. Engage and collaborate with internal business, IT, program and
compliance experts in all aspects of the records and information
management program.



5. Oversee and coordinate records and information management services in
cooperation with others across the University.



6. Maintain strong working relationships with the University Archivists
and assist in the identification and transfer to archival custody records
(in all formats) of enduring value.



7. Assist and provide expertise in developing, updating, and disseminating
policies and procedures related to managing records and other information
resources including research data.



8. Provide supervision and oversight to other personnel and perform other
duties as appropriate for an Assistant Director of RIMS.



Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in the field of business,
information technology, social sciences or a related field with three to
five years of experience working with records and information resources
and systems. An advanced degree in law or LIS would substitute for these
degrees. Other required qualifications include: knowledge and
understanding of basic records and information management functions;
knowledge of national and international standards and best practices
related to records and information management including the management of
electronic records; experience working across multiple organizational
levels simultaneously and building coalitions and partnerships within and
outside of the institution; excellent written and verbal communication
skills; strength in at least one of the preferred areas of knowledge and
experience.
Qualifications:

Preferred qualifications include: Master’s Degree or advanced degree with
a concentration in the management and organization of information assets,
business information systems, information technology, organizational
systems or information science; certification in ICRM Certified Records
Manager and/or AIIM ERM Masters Certification, certification by the
Academy of Certified Archivists, and/or Project Management Certification;
experience working in the environment of higher education, health
services, facilities and utilities, information technology or with large
research-based organizations; experience with electronic records
management systems, electronic document management systems, document
imaging systems, or enterprise database systems; demonstrated knowledge
of, or experience in identifying, the relative value of records, with a
particular emphasis on records of enduring value; demonstrated ability to
oversee and support the development and delivery of training materials;
strong project management and organizational skills; excellent
problem-solving skills to address difficult, complex issues.



This is a full-time, 12-month Academic Professional position. For full
