Join the ARMA International, Greater Columbus Chapter for its annual spring seminar, Thursday May 24 @ Ashland, Inc. 5200 Blazer Parkway, Bldg #2 Dublin, OH 43017<http://tinyurl.com/ARMGCatAshland>.

This year we will be providing two sessions once again:

  * AM Session: "The Records Manager's Role in Implementing Electronic Information Management" presented by Jim Coulson
Organizations are finding that the true solution to managing their massive electronic information volumes is primarily defined by the information needs of the organization's business processes. This is contrary to many current efforts, where solutions are primarily defined by enterprise governance needs or by ever-evolving information management technologies.

By focusing on the organization's business processes, there's new clarity into the many different values of information, as well as the variations in information management-related risks across an organization. It connects the management of information with the work performed by the business. Users can remove obsolete information, declare enterprise records, and store knowledge for their future reference-all as part of their normal work process. As a result, legal sees compliance that is more pervasive and obtains a simple, sustainable guide to where all the information is in the organization; senior executives can finally see and measure results after years of investment in information management.

Records Managers have long been valued partners of the organization's business groups in supporting the management of their information. Astute and judicious leveraging of this business contact and process experience can propel a Records Manager into a key role as implementation facilitator. Hearing about proven methods and tools for this fresh new approach from a seasoned professional will help save your organization valuable deployment time and significantly improve your probability of success.

  * PM Session: "Privacy & Data Protection for Records Manager" presented by Brian Tretick
All organizations carry obligations over the information they collect, derive, process, store, and transfer to others. Driven by laws, regulations, corporate policies, fiduciary responsibilities, and value generation or preservation, these obligations warrant deliberate and careful consideration in risk management, compliance, and operations throughout the organization's extended enterprise. Through information governance and privacy advisory services, Brian assists clients to develop and implement governance over information assets, and to assess the effectiveness of associated programs, policies, controls, and monitoring.

This afternoon's session will introduce topics of privacy and data protection, tying the discipline to GARP. It will begin with the key concepts of privacy, starting with the United States perspective, but encompassing the broader Canadian, European, and Asia-Pacific concepts briefly. The session will also cover the commonalities of privacy laws and regulations, and privacy considerations for records managers.

Highlights of what you will learn:

  * General concepts of privacy and data protection in the US and other countries
  * Common privacy principles and their relationship to GARP
  * Elements of privacy laws and regulations
  * Resources available to help guide professionals
