DESCRIPTION
The Santa Clara Valley Water District manages an integrated water resources system that includes the supply of clean, safe water, flood protection and environmental stewardship of streams on behalf of Santa Clara County's 1.8 million residents. The district effectively manages 10 dams and surface water reservoirs, three water treatment plants, a state-of-the-art water quality laboratory, nearly 400 acres of groundwater recharge ponds and more than 275 miles of streams. The Records Management Center contains documents from the late 1800s to the present, including files, maps, drawings, photographs, reports and other records pertaining to the development and management of water resources in Santa Clara County.
 
JOB TITLE: Records Management Graduate Student Intern
 
TASK TYPE: Records Management
 
JOB DESCRIPTION: The Santa Clara Valley Water District is seeking an intern for, April, May and June of 2012. Tasks will include assisting in preparing the annual update to records retention schedules, and implementing the update in the database; checking data quality and updating data for records already in system; developing communications to assist District staff to understand impacts of changes; and assisting to document unit procedures and update training materials. Time permitting; tasks could also include indexing and conservation tasks for files, engineering drawings, maps, photographs or microfilm collections. This would be an excellent training opportunity for someone who would like to learn about practical implementation of records management at a local government agency.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: Coursework or experience with Records Management or a closely related field; familiarity with databases. Strong written and oral communications skills in English. Experience with Microsoft Excel _or equivalent_, databases and authority control would be desirable. Experience preparing written or audio/visual training materials would be valuable.
 
INTERN PROGRAM: The Water District encourages college level students pursuing college degrees to gain part-time work experience and on-the-job training in a field closely related to their field of study.
 
QUALIFICATIONS: must be enrolled in at least six _6_ units per grading period leading to a bachelor’s degree or enrolled in a graduate degree program at an accredited college or university.
 
WORK HOURS AND TERM: Flexible; 300 hours total desired, maximum hours per week is 20, during school breaks interns can work up to 40 hours per week if work is available. Assignment could be through 6/30/12, with a possible extension if work is available and budgeted.
