I wonder though, how well known (and compensated) are the CRISC and CGEIT designations outside of IT recruiting? Do either, or even more importantly perhaps both, have a foundation on which to stand that is as solid as GARP?

Information Governance, in the eyes of corporate governance (which is arguably the ultimate audience), is still nebulous, at best. IT is but one stakeholder in information governance, whether or not that is readily accepted by IT.

I applaud ARMA (likely with some bias) for taking the opportunity it has before it to define something that is clearly important to our organizations, yet no other body has had the framework from which to do it in a truly comprehensive and authoritative manner.

In my opinion, the CISSP, CRISC, CGEIT, CIP and others either fill niche (yet potentially valid) requirements for overall information governance, or take too shallow an approach to the issue to be ultimately a game-changer for the profession or the professionals that associate with it.
