So, I'm pondering an interesting question about the future of the Cloud and other hosted solutions.

When vendor-based solutions have the opportunity to replace legacy, in-house software and servers we sometimes need to wrestle with the implications left behind by some of the changes. In many cases, we can approach these changes much like other software or system upgrades, mapping records management program requirements from the old solution to the new one.

With the use of hosted services, though I notice some new questions being asked of the RM team; such as, they do back-ups differently, or we keep tapes archived for X amount of time, but the vendor only keeps for Y, so we have the records(data inputs and records), but not the whole process(step by step, who did what/when/how) that created the record like we used to have.

I'd be interested in opinions from the group about their experiences with these changes and the strategic approach other organizations have taken to ensure integrity with records management goals and objectives.

Thanks!

Steve Golden, CRM
