Depends on where you are and what's in the log. Most places, there's no
real legal retention period, but in the EU, they are starting to put out
guidance to the effect that logs tracking things like employee internet
usage are subject to privacy requirements, and opining (but not yet
requiring) that limits of a few weeks or months is an adequate retention
of them. To my knowledge, no privacy authority has yet brought an
enforcement action on this, but it's always a possibility.
