Preservation of Executable Files | Smithsonian Institution Archives As digital materials become more prolific in large institutions like the Smithsonian, one of the biggest challenges that archives face is figuring out how to preserve uncommon or obsolete computer files. One example is executable files. EXEs are, generally, programs. But it’s not quite that simple! They might be interactive games, video slideshows, or install drivers. As a result, they aren't as uniform as .doc or .jpg files. As part of my internship at the Smithsonian Institution Archives, I'm trying to figure out exactly what we should do with the executables in our collections, conducting research into the filetype and solutions for preservation, and examining the collections in order to create a plan. http://bit.ly/OkJ0Nu Source: http://siarchives.si.edu/blog/preservation-executable-files?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:+si/vrZU+(The+Bigger+Picture)&utm_content=Google+Reader See if people are clicking on this link: http://bit.ly/OkJ0Nu+ Try the bitly.com sidebar to see who is talking about a page on the web: http://bitly.com/pages/sidebar -- Peter Kurilecz CRM CA [log in to unmask] Richmond, Va http://twitter.com/RAINbyte http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/RAINbyte/ http://paper.li/RAINbyte/rainbyte http://pinterest.com/pakurilecz/archives/ http://pinterest.com/pakurilecz/records-management/ http://www.linkedin.com/in/peterakurilecz Information not relevant for my reply has been deleted to reduce the electronic footprint and to save the sanity of digest subscribers List archives at http://lists.ufl.edu/archives/recmgmt-l.html Contact [log in to unmask] for assistance To unsubscribe from this list, click the below link.
