How old is the old metadata? Is that age within a timeframe where any
analysis would provide information that has real value for your
organization over and above the cost and trouble of keeping the old data
and doing the cross-referencing? What's the real business value of the
cross-referencing? To what actual, valuable use would the result be put?
Why would you need an audit trail that you don't already have? Would
you even need it at all? How likely is it that you'll actually do the
cross-referencing even if it is useful?
It seems to me that unless you've got strong positive responses to most
of these questions, it's not worth keeping.
