LAST CALL!!  ARMA Metro Maryland September 12, 2012 Dinner Meeting, “Digital Preservation:  The Next Records Management Challenge,” Carol Brock, CRM

Time: Networking – 6:00 PM, Dinner – 6:30 PM, Presentation – 7:30 PM

Location: Far East Restaurant, 5055 Nicholson Lane, Rockville, MD 20852, 301-881-5552

Program:  Are you responsible for record integrity for the long term?  Do format questions loom large in your thinking?  Do you know or care what a dark archives is?  Are you depending on your information technology shop to migrate your data?  Have you budgeted for the preservation of your long term/permanent records?  Do you want to learn more about these questions?   As a profession, we moved from focusing on electronic records management to information governance and now to digital preservation:  the management of digital information for long-term accessibility.   We must begin preparations now to ensure the long term/permanent retention of electronic records with continued value to our organizations.   This presentation explores the dimensions of the digital preservation challenge and the resources available to assist you with preparing a strategy for this change.

Carol is also a Research Fellow at the University of Texas at Austin working on a Ph.D. in Digital Preservation.   Carol is also a charter member of this ARMA Chapter and a founding member of the Federal Information and Records Management (FIRM) Council.  She is also an active member of ARMA and AIIM.  In June 2010, Carol provided invited expert testimony, “Federal Electronic Records Management:  A Status Report” on behalf of ARMA, International before the Subcommittee on Information Policy, Census, and National Archives of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
