Bill,

Now you've made a number of erroneous assumptions. I've been in records management and litigation support/management for 30 years. I've supported almost every major law firm in the United States in those 30 years. Yes, a records manager is her best choice but they should understand all the aspects of management electronic content, especially emails. Too many assumptions are your part Bill.

No, just being clear. Your assertion is off base for a law firm. Irene doesn't need to talk to a sales person at this point. She needs to talk to a knowledgeable person, either a records manager in a law firm, or a consultant (CRM) with significant exposure to law firm systems, about the concepts and strategy that will get her firm where it needs to be. The last step is to buy a "solution", not the first step.

Not true. There are many different ways to handle email responsibly including staff involvement, not including staff involvement, archiving everything, making judgments based on content, matter status, etc.

Irene, if you want to know what law firms do with email, talk to records managers in law firms. I wouldn't bother with sales people, who may be trying to pound a square peg into a round hole and/or don't really understand the issues present in a law firm. Now consultants, who have years of experience in a law firm, and may even be CRM's, different story.

Irene,

The management of emails, especially in a law firm, should not include any staff involvement and be totally transparent and management by the responsible party within the firm. I'd be interested in talking to you about a solution on how to do this. If interested, I can be reached at any of the contact points below.

Dennis
