seriously though I remember this same type of question being asked years
ago when microfilming was in its heyday. IIRC the same answer applies. It
depends. It depends upon the business process and the records associated
with the process. Are the records subject to either state or federal
regulations/statutes or both. if none apply then it becomes a decision of
the business whether or not to keep the hard copy.
But remember if the decision is to destroy the hard copy after filming or
scanning you will need to be rigorous about compliance with the procedures
and processes to insure the trustworthiness of the image.
