Barbara,

You didn't state what specific jurisdiction(s) you were asking about -
I assume you are just seeking hardcopy requirements for the United
States and 50 states.  If so then others have already answered your
question.

If you are asking about international requirements - that is a totally
different animal.  A few years I did some research for a former
employer of mine (energy sector) and found that a number of countries
in Latin America still require paper even if the records are born
electronic.  If you are seeking advice regarding other country
requirements I would suggest you contact consultants who have
experience in that area.
