County moves toward tightening records policiesCounty moves toward

n the midst of a state criminal investigation of alleged illegal records
destruction by Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly, other elected officials in
the county are working to update their records-retention policies, and make
sure they conform to recommended state guidelines.

The chair of the Athens County Records Commission also indicated last week
that the board is seriously considering making its own local requirements
for allowing one-time destruction of records even more stringent than what
is required by the state.
