Does anyone know of an additional source to purchase the legal
requirement research at a cost that would be reasonable? I would
appreciate any suggestions."

Whatever you "buy" in this market place, keep in mind you need to look
closely at the disclaimers.

I KNOW *ONE* of the products mentioned here accepts ZERO liability if the
citations they provide are not current or if the user 'misinterprets or
misapplies' them. Given the laws/regulations being researched are many
times not in a user's native tongue, you are relying on the accuracy of
whoever translated the original language.

Cold hard fact is almost ALL of th eOOTB retention guidance you receive
needs to be back checked for accuracy and to determine how current it is...
it only provides your organization a starting point.

This is even MORE critical for any consultants who use a third party
product to develop retention guidance for a client, then deliver them a
finished product for their subsequent use. MAKE SURE YOU provide a
disclaimer as to the accuracy of the information being based on citations
from XYZ, that it is current as of X date and that the client is
responsible for future updates and research.... unless you are under a
contract to keep it current.

I saw this PR paper recently from some firm in the EU that was providing
guidance to companies as to where the most "favorable nations were" for
storing their records in the EU... the guidance was essentially based on
who had the weakest data protection laws. Problem is, if you DO BUSINESS
in one country, you are obligated to follow that country's laws... not the
one for where your records are STORED.
