I don't know that a process for destroying records internally needs to be
particularly formalized.  As long as the records being destroyed
consistently in accordance with your retention schedule, and in such a way
that they're not exposed to security risks, I think you should be OK.

I would suggest that for the primary copy of corporate records that are on 
your retention schedule, that you still want to document their destruction 
with authorization forms and destruction certificates, even if they are 
destroyed from your office area. Generally, it contributes to records 
destruction being done in your normal course of business, Specifically in 
the case of an audit or lawsuit wherein those records are called for, you 
can show that you do not have those records because you destroyed them IAW 
your retention schedule and normal course of business and oh, by the way, 
here is the paperwork documenting their destruction.
