In theory, someone might be able to discover which keys are being pressed on an electric typewriter based upon the electronic signature of the relay that moves the typing element or the key. Then there is carbon paper and if they use a multifunction device as a copier, you can hack those and capture whatever is copied. It is pretty hard to completely avoid espionage.
