The National Archives of the United Kingdom has issued release notes for
changes in the PRONOM registry and version 69 of the DROID signature file.
DROID is one of the most widely used tools in the world for automatically
identifying file formats. DROID is one of the tools used in the ERA system
for file format identification. For the past several years the National
Archives of the UK, NARA, and our Research Partners at the Georgia Tech
Research Institute (GTRI) have been working collaboratively to
significantly improve the information in PRONOM and the capabilities of
DROID. In this latest release, GTRI has contributed 32 new records in the
PRONOM registry, added 53 new internal signatures for identifying file
formats to PRONOM and DROID, and provided 4 improved signatures for
existing PRONOM and DROID entries.
