I had a similar issue in which I needed my third party storage company to
take out insurance because the nature of the records that I was storing made
them irreplaceable and the documents contained pictures of historical people
including Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses Grant, Walt Disney, Mr. Goldwyn of MGM
Studios, etc...so I contacted an auction house and, through them, found
people who specialize in document collections. Ultimately, though, a
recommendation from RICE University in Houston, TX was the winner. We found
a specialist who evaluates estate, libary, and corpoate documents and
collections in order to assign a value. We are still going through the
process of evaluation, but we are very pleased with the knowledge of our
service provider, especially as he had dealt with documents where permanent
retention is indicated and can evaluate what it would cost to replace them
(if that is even possible).

We are using John Payne and Associates in Austin, TX. However, we
interviewed other specialists associated with Christie's Auction House,
Sothebye's, and Ricketson-Howard. Many of them had impressive credentials
in dealing with document collections, but we selected our current provider
based on the fact that he had extensive experience with presidential papers
and corporate archives.
