I'm turning to the Listserv once again to get a pulse on how things are done outside of our world.

We have an acceptable handle on records destruction inactive hard copy and electronic records in our repositories, including reviewing for legal holds by the various stakeholders and using approved retention schedules, documenting the destruction, applying new schedules for repurposed records, etc.

I'd like to find out how other companies/agencies are handling destruction of records in the field/offices that were not sent to a repository. Are the custodians authorized to destroy records in the field, are the records sent to a central location in the company for destruction, is the destruction authorized and tracked in some way? How do you know that they are only destroying records that should be destroyed and keeping things that should not be destroyed if they were not sent to a repository?

Thanks for any comments ahead of time. Feel free to contact me directly if preferred.
