The IGP is more about identifying issues--in addition to those identified in
the CRM, that are undermining the organization's efforts to manage its
information to its own needs and requirements, creating a plan to make those
changes that includes HR, IT, Legal, management, change management, etc. to
improve the situation, and then execute the plan. I think this is what we
all do anyway.

When I took the CRM, it was about the detailed knowledge of requirements,
problems, and solutions having to do with the management of documents
excluding document control (signature control, copy control, version
control, etc.).

While I am ecstatic about passing the test, I do not believe its value is
immeasurably enhanced by my CRM designation. I have seen the "information
governance" solutions created by lawyers, IT vendors, search consultants,
etc. and basically they want to sell you some software. Lawyers without a
CRM think they know how to create a retention schedule for what they call
"defensible retention." We've been doing that since Sumeria.

Best wishes,
Carol
